Beloved Border Collie Saves Two Girls from Snake in Jugiong
JUGIONG, NSW — July 22, 2019 — A local Border Collie named Mack, along with his owner Renae, rescued two young girls from a snake near the Murrumbidgee River yesterday afternoon.
The incident occurred during one of Renae and Mack’s regular walks along the riverbank. They heard screams for help and found two young girls cornered by a large snake near a rocky outcrop.
Reacting quickly, Renae assessed the situation. The snake, likely disturbed from its habitat, was poised to strike. Mack, sensing the danger, sprang into action. He darted between the snake and the girls, barking fiercely to distract the reptile.
“Mack, stay back!” Renae called out, but Mack was determined to protect the girls.
With a combination of barks and swift movements, Mack managed to drive the snake away. The reptile, overwhelmed by the dog’s bravery, slithered back into the underbrush. Renae quickly gathered the girls, ensuring they were safe and unharmed.
The girls’ parents, arriving shortly after the ordeal, were immensely grateful to Renae and Mack. Local residents who witnessed the event praised Mack’s quick actions and fearless demeanor.
“Mack was an incredible dog. He knew exactly what to do to protect us,” said Renae.
Mack passed away from old age not long after this heroic act, but his legacy lives on in Jugiong. The town remembers him as a true hero, and his story continues to inspire the community.
